In 1950 the Associated Press began polling the Baseball Writers Association for their "Comeback Player of the Year" Award. Later, United Press and then The Sporting News followed along in 1965.
Here is the first iteration. Eddie Waitkus beat out Johnny Mize
In a related note, the Chicago chapter of the Baseball Writers Association named Dizzy Trout thair AL Comeback Player of the Year.
