Post-season honors: Mantle was an All-MLB pick six times, Second-team four times and All-American League nine times, and Second-team All-AL once. Note: 1954 there were no All-AL or All-NL teams.

In summary, Mantle got post-season honors in 11 of his 18 seasons, not counting the mid-season All-Star selections.

In 1960 two all-time greats were the Comeback Players of the Year for the NL and AL—Stan Musial and Ted Williams.

Danny Murtaugh was the MLB Manager of the Year according to The Sporting News

Both the AP and UPI named Danny Murtaugh the NL Manager of the Year and Paul Richards of the Orioles the AL Manager of the Year. 

1959 MLB, NL and AL Managers of the Year

The Sporting News chose Walter Alston as its MLB Manager of the Year.

United Press International chose Alston as the NL Manager of the Year and Al Lopez as the AL skipper.

The Associated Press also chose Alston and Lopez.

In 1957 The Sporting News (TSN) chose Fred Hutchinson as the MLB Manager of the Year and the 
Associated Press (AP) chose Fred Haney as the NL Manager of the Year and Al Lopez as the Al Manager. The United Press (UP) voters picked Fred Hutchinson and Lopez.

Reds Skipper Birdie Tebbetts took the NL honor and the MLB honor because in 1956 The Sporting News was the only organization with an MLB-wide award. and Fred Haney was the second-leading vote-getter. Paul Richards of the Orioles was the runner-up to Stengel. 

Casey Stengel won the Manager of the Year Awards in 1949 (MLB), 1951 (AL), 1952 (MLB, AL), 1953 (MLB, AL) and in 1956 he was the AP AL Manager of the Year—five wins in eight seasons. Pretty good. 

1956 AL and NL Comeback Players of the Year

The Associated Press chose Sal Maglie as the NL Comeback Player and Vic Wertz as the AL Comeback Player. 

In the NL Brooks Lawrence was the runner-up going from 3-8 to 19-10 and cutting his ERA from 6.56 to 3.99. Charlie Maxwell was the Al runner-up coming back strong from an injury-riddled 1955 campaign.

In 1955 the Associated Press (AP) chose an AL and NL Comeback Player of the Year. In the National League, it was Roy Campanella and the AL winner was Tommy Byrne of the Yankees.

With the great year (and subsequent World Series win) Leo Durocher was the 1954 Associated Press (AP) MLB Manager of the Year and he took The Sporting News Manager of the year honor as well.

1954 Major League Comeback Player of the Year

The Associated Press chose just one MLB Comeback Player of the Year rather than one from each league and the 1954 leading vote-getter was Ted Williams. Williams beat out Bob Feller and Vic Wertz among others.

The Associated Press (AP) selected AL and NL Comeback Players of the Year. In the AL Virgil Trucks was the leading-vote-getter and Carl Furillo took the NL award.

In 1953 The Associated Press (AP) and United Press (UP) voted on "Manager of the Year" awards. The AP picked a MLB Manager of the Year and also AL and NL recipients. The UP picked AL and NL Winners.

The MLB Manager of the Year by the AP and The Sporting News was Casey Stengel. The runner-up in the AP poll was Charlie Grimm. The AL winner was Stengel and the NFL winner was Grimm. In the NL the runner-up was Charlie Dressen and in the AL the runner-up was Lou Boudreau.

The UP voting had Stengel as the winner in the AL with the White Sox Manager Paul Richards second and Eddie Stanky was second in the NL UP poll. 

1952 MLB Comeback Player of the Year

In 1952 Enos Slaughter was the top vote-getter in the Associated Press poll for Comeback Player of the Year. Luke Easter was second.

Slaughter upped his average to .300 and his home runs went for four to eleven and he drove in 64 runs in 1951 and 101 in 1952.

1950 MLB Comeback Player of the Year

In 1950 the Associated Press began polling the Baseball Writers Association for their "Comeback Player of the Year" Award. Later, United Press and then The Sporting News followed along in 1965.

Here is the first iteration. Eddie Waitkus beat out Johnny Mize

In a related note, the Chicago chapter of the Baseball Writers Association named Dizzy Trout thair AL Comeback Player of the Year. 

1952 MLB Manager of the Year

In 1952 it was the Mighty Casey again who won the Associated Press (AP) MLB Manager of the Year. Eddie Stanky was second in the voting and the AP stated that "gave Stanky the title of National League Manager of the Year". 

Stanky also was The Sporting News winner of Manager of the Year, thus he and Stengel share the "Consensus Manager of the Year" title.

So, I suppose that sets the precedent, no? The highest vote-getting in the opposite league as the winner of an AP Award is that league's Manager, or whatever if the Award is combined. Interesting.

Regardless, Casey Stengel is starting to rank up these awards, isn't he? So far, 1949 and 1952 with more coming and second-place finishes in 1950 and 1951.

1951 MLB Manager of the Year

Leo Durocher captured the UP NL Manager of the Year but he also was the Associated Press (AP) Manager of the Year as well and he captured The Sporting News award as well—A clean sweep.

He beat out Casey Stengel in the voting but Stengle beat out Durocher in the World Series (which happened after the poll was taken).
