Al Rosen |
Here is the 1952 iteration of the All-MLB teams by The Sporting News (TSN) and the Associated Press (AP) and the All-NL and All-AL teams by the United Press (UP).
There is a disagreement at third base in which TSN has George Kell and the AP selected Al Rosen. In the UP AL-AL team, Rosen beat out Kell I'd go with Rosen as the consensus choice at third base.
Again TSN went with a third pitcher Allie Reynolds who was a starter but also did some relief work, as he often did in his career.
The runners up in the AP voting were Campanella, Hodges. Schoendienst, Kell, Dark, Doby, Slaughter. and Bauer.
The UP picks included Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, and Nellie Fox—players who would go on to dominate the 1950s.
Here are the picks—
C—Yogi Berra, Yankees (TSN, AP)
1B—Ferris Fain (TSN, AP)
2B—Jackie Robinson, Dodgers (TSN, AP)
SS—Phill Rizzuto, Yankees (TSN, AP)
3B—Al Rosen, Indians (AP), George Kell, Red Sox (TSN)
OF—Mickey Mantle, Yankees (AP)
OF—Stan Musial, Cardinals (TSN, AP)
OF—Hank Sauer, Cubs, (TSN, AP);
P—Robin Roberts, Phillies (TSN, AP)
P—Bobby Shantz, Athletics (TSN, AP)

Here are the usual MLB All-Star teams for comparison—
