1950 All-MLB Team

 By JT

Larry Doby

This is the review of the three All-MLB teams chose by the major news services. The Sporting News and Associated Press (AP) chose All-MLB teams and United Press (UP) picked All-NFL and All-AL teams. The Associated Press (AP) selected for the first time a utility player—Billy Goodman of the Red Sox who hit .354.

Among the differences are the United Press (UP) chose Eddie Stanky for its All-NL team. over Jackie Robinson, though Robinson made the AP and TSN team and is the consensus second sacker. Jerry Coleman is the All-AL second baseman.

Other differences are in the outfield. Ralph Kiner made two Musial also made the same two—TSN and AP. They are consensus choices. Larry Doby and the Yankee Clipper each made one team.

On the UPI team Vic Wertz and Hoot Evers and Doby all beat out Joe DiMaggio, so we will go with Doby as the third outfielder on the consensus team.

Bob Lemon made all three squads and Vic Raschi made a pair of the teams. Jim Konstanty is TSN's relief pitcher. Warren Spahn and Raschi essentially tied.

  1. Regarding the OF selections, Yankee Stadium and its "Death Valley" kinda disguised how good a year DiMaggio really had. If you just look at road stats he led the majors in HR, 2B, TB, XBH, R, RBI, & SLG%.
