1977 National League All-Star Teams

 By JT

I have always thought the All-Star teams were not a great basis for judging a player's season. The MLB All-Star teams are voted on by fans and they have 25 or so players and sometimes a player is only there to represent a team. Nonetheless, it is one measure. We will post the AP, the UPI, and The Sporting News Teams as well.

Here are the NL starts for the 1977 All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.

So, the consensus First team is

C—Ted Simmons, St. Louis (AP, UPI, TSN)
 Johnny Bench, Cincinnati (MLB)
1B—Steve Garvey, Los Angeles (MLBAP, UPI, TSN)
2B—Joe Morgan, Cincinnati (MLBAP, UPI, TSN)
3B—Mike Schmidt, Philadelphia (AP, UPI, TSN)
 Ron Cey, Los Angeles (MLB)
SS—Gary Templeton, St. Louis (AP, UPI, TSN)

OF—George Foster, Cincinnati (MLBAP, UPI, TSN)
OF—Greg Luzinski, Philadelphia (MLBAP, UPI, TSN)
OF—Dave Parker, Pittsburgh (MLBAP, UPI, TSN)

RHP—Tom Seaver, Cincinnati (APUPI)
            Rick Reuschel, Chicago (TSN)
            Don Sutton, Los Angeles (MLB)
Relief—Bruce Sutter, Chicago (UPI)

Consensus Second-team

    1. Good research. We all know this pretty much. The question then is
      And?

    2. well, you pretty much didn't know the Ap and UPI All-Star teams. They just recently appeared on baseball reference---and that is new info that you got here first.

After that it is just information showing the WAR versus the teams voted on by the fans and the media.

      That is the "and"
